Scott Meyer serves as a Principal Consultant for McDermott & Bull Executive Search, where he leads the firm’s Consumer Brands Practice with particular focus on the firm’s Private Equity Practice. Scott partners with publicly traded and private equity portfolio consumer packaged goods, consumer durables, retail, apparel, and consumer services companies, as well as private equity firms. Scott’s clients include Chicken of the Sea, Crunchies Natural Foods Company, SC Fuels, VITA, and portfolio companies owned by Swander Pace Capital, ClearLight Partners and Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe.
The first 20 years of Scott’s career were in consumer packaged goods brand management with Johnson & Johnson and Gillette, working on global brands such as Tylenol, Splenda, Oral-B, and Braun. Of particular note is Scott’s nine years of marketing experience in the oral care market with Gillette, culminating in his position as a corporate vice-president managing the global Braun Oral-B power oral care business which he grew from $430M to $655M in three years. Over the next 10 years, he subsequently assumed general management positions at consumer durables companies as President/CEO at T-Fal/WearEver, Chief Marketing Officer and VP/General Manager at Sun Capital/Bain Capital portfolio company American Standard Brands, and President, North America at Breville. Scott also has extensive experience consulting for operating companies owned by private equity funds such as Thomas H. Lee Partners, Harbinger Capital Partners and MidOcean Partners. He has been placed as a candidate by retained search firms four times and over the course of his career Scott has retained executive search firms as a client ten times to fill positions in general management, sales, marketing, finance, supply chain, and IT — giving him the in-depth client perspective not usually found in career search consultants that only first-hand experience provides.
Scott grew up in Indiana, and his career has given him the opportunity to live in Pennsylvania, California, Colorado, New Jersey, and due to his fluency in German, in Frankfurt, Germany for five years. He and his wife Barb have two grown daughters and a grandson and reside in Huntington Beach, California. Scott volunteers for the Be The Match Registry at the National Marrow Donor Program, after having donated to a chronic myelogenous leukemia patient who is still alive more than four years after the transplant. Scott received a Master of Business Administration degree from Columbia University Graduate School of Business and a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University Krannert School of Management.
